Body Mastery for the Coach

DEFINITION

Taking Care of Me - The Coach

Last month, this is what we said about "Taking Care of Me - The Coach" … When we think of caring for self we usually think of conventional things like food, exercise and rest. In today's coaching world, taking care of self goes beyond the conventional three. We must pay attention to keeping our energy fields clean. Meditation is key to a Coach's well-being. And keeping our thoughts positive at every single moment is paramount to our success.

In this month's newsletter we focus on how important it is to recognize The Universal Law of Service "The more we love ourselves, the more we can love and service others."

Do you remember your first coaching session? Your knees were trembling a bit, your palms were sweaty and your heart was in your throat! And, it's a good thing that we owned all of that because we have important jobs to do. We hold the hearts and minds of our Clients in our hands. We must honour them and give them the best of us. And in doing so we bring honour to our profession.

Ah, yes. Did I say 'profession'? Indeed, it is a profession. And Professionals know The Universal Law of Service "The more we love ourselves, the more we can love and service others." Loving self is a life long journey … building up layers of self-awareness to create an aura that depicts great peace within.

There is an old saying, "If we wear out our body, where are we going to live!" This June Newsletter brings to you a wealth of information on 'body mastery'. Body mastery is more than exercise and green tea.

It's about paying attention to:

  1. everything we put into our mouths: food and liquids. Most people don't know that cancer lives in an acidic body. And that most people have acidic bodies. Yikes! How come you might ask? Well, think about how much meat, coffee, black tea, alcohol, fast foods and so on that we throw down the gullet.
  2. everything we put on our bodies. Ladies, check out some of the ingredients of your make-up for example. Did you know that many make-up companies crush red beetles and put them in your make-up for colouring? They even give it a fancy name "carmine". Aside from torturing these poor little things, we find ourselves using creams and such that are laden with harmful ingredients. Watch for dangerous ingredients in both feminine and masculine toiletries … cancer causing agents such as propylene glycol and sodium laureth sulphate should be avoided. Many brands of baby wipes are laden with propylene glycol …
  3. everything we do to our bodies. Witness the fact that we keep polluting our air and water systems.
This newsletter's focus takes us to a deeper level of body mastery. My hope is that you read it with great interest in order to keep your body strong and healthy and your energy field clean. After all we want to see you active in this business for many many years to come! To succeed, personal Mind, Body and Spirit Mastery is paramount.

As one of the International Directors of the ECI you may email me your comments at Betska@the-eci.org.

Deepest thanks goes to Anne-Marie McIntosh for her loving and enthusiastic partnership in creating this June newsletter. Scotland rocks!

Stay tuned for July's newsletter on Spirit Mastery.

Much love to you all.

Taking Care of Me - The Coach

Body Mastery

"There is power inherent in committing yourself to the process of creating health in all levels of your life. Creating health requires a paradigm shift … to a new way of thinking about and being in relationship to our bodies, our minds, our spirits, and our connection with the universe." ~ Christiane Northrup, M.D.

FOOD AND OTHER INTAKE

While many of these concepts will be 'old hat' to you, some of them might be new as we bring to you some of the latest research on body mastery.

  1. Keep your kidneys and liver clean. The kidneys and liver are the cleansers of the body. Emotional energy from your clients can get trapped within your organs. To keep them healthy and vital cleanse these organs by squeezing one slice or more of a fresh lemon (vs bottled) into warm water and drinking it in the morning before eating.
  2. Eat lots of cooked greens and live foods such as salads. Preferably organic.
  3. Drink lots of water daily (6-8 glasses).
  4. Reduce caffeine, nicotine, alcohol or drugs. None is preferable.
  5. Keep the lymph moving. Drink dandelion leaf tea (especially one week before your period if you are a female) as, according to Herbologists, it prevents cancer. Dandelion keeps the lymph moving and your liver clean. One week prior to your period is when estrogen levels are at their highest level. Dandelion counteracts the impact of the estrogen. Great for breast distension. Try it and you will see the powerful effects of dandelion.
  6. Consider changing your diet to an alkaline lacto-vegetarian or vegan diet as they are the purest diets, are beneficial (invaluable) for the health of your body, mind and spirit and necessary to save the planet.
    1. The human intestines are not designed to digest meat. To read more of the research, visit www.pcrm.org Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Download their Vegetarian Starter Kit. Great recipes!
    2. In 1931 Otto Warburg won a Nobel Prize for discovering that cancer thrives in an acidic body. Today we know that diseases as a whole thrive in acidic bodies. Learn which foods and beverages alkalize your body. Meat eating countries have the highest rates of cancer. Eat 70% alkalizing foods and 30% acid forming. Most fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and grains are alkaline. Most meats, fish, eggs and dairy are acidic. Check the internet for lists of alkaline versus acidic foods.
    3. A vegetarian/vegan diet is the healthiest diet. Read "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell - a 20 year study which proves that a vegetarian/vegan diet is far healthier than a meat-based diet.
    4. The greatest cause of global warming is the raising and transportation of animals. Scientists say that we have less than 4 years to save the planet. We can mitigate global warming by the simple action of choosing what we put on our forks. For in-depth information to support these statements click here . For example, read the information provided by Dr. James Hansen, Top Climatologist at NASA. Dr. Hansen concludes "If we eat further down on the food chain rather than animals, which have produced many greenhouse gases and used much energy in the process of growing that meat, you can actually make a bigger contribution in that way than just about anything. So that, in terms of individual action, is perhaps the best thing you can do. But you also have to do things that influence the decisions of policy makers."
    5. It is stated in some research that if people in the west for example, in America, eat vegetarian only once a week, we would be able to save sixteen million starving people every year. (The WHO reports that 29,500 children die every day from starvation and close to 1 billion people go hungry every year.)
    6. Vegetarians will tell you that the less meat we eat, the clearer our minds become. Some of the greatest geniuses of the world (Einstein, da Vinci, Plato, Confucius, etc.) were vegetarian/vegans.
    7. When animals are about to be killed, they cry. They have feelings too. They run away from fear. Since everything and everyone is made from energy, when we eat animals, we eat that fear and become more fearful.<
    8. Be a hero! Vegetarians tread more lightly on the planet. Spiritually they feel better knowing that a sentient being didn't have to suffer and die each time they eat a meal.
  7. Take good vitamins, B12, iron and zinc. Sublingual (under the tongue) B12 and zinc, folic acid and omega 3-6-9 oils are very important for healthy thinking and memory. Hint: take B12 to minimize the possibility of becoming depressed. Because our foods have been compromised and don't contain the minerals and vitamins they once did, our bodies may need extra. And our bodies will tell us if we actually listen. For example, I can tell when I need B12 because my memory evaporates! To read comparisons of the nutritional value of organic vs non-organic foods, order "Green for Life" by Valerie Boutenko. Go to www.RawFamilycom I was amazed to find that we waste our money on non-organic veggies as the nutritional value is dramatically lower than their organic counterparts.
  8. If you are over 40 years of age, consider taking supplemental enzymes (to better digest your food). Consider taking probiotics. These "friendly" microorganisms protect the GI tract (from mouth to anus) and keep us healthy by protecting us from "unfriendly" microorganisms such as bacteria, yeasts, and fungi that cause disease. They also improve immune system function. I personally have noticed a big difference with enzymes and probiotics. Did you know that there are Doctors of Natural Medicine who can now hook you up to an NES machine which tells you exactly what is balanced in your body and what is not? The technology today is quite astonishing.
  9. To keep your energy high all afternoon, eat walnuts/almonds/cashews at lunchtime. This stops us feeling a little snoozy between 2- 4 PM. As I understand it, the snooziness comes from having low liver chi.

OTHER BODY MASTERY

  1. Exercise: aerobic exercise. Yoga, Tai-Chi, and other marshal arts work to release emotions stuck in the tissues.
  2. Fresh air daily (15 minutes to stimulate the pineal gland to produce melatonin).
  3. Be mindful of the health of your physical body. Check with your natural doctor first to see if you are fit to do herbal cleanses in February and in late August. In addition, ask yourself, "Are my organs healthy? Am I doing everything possible to keep my body pure?" Understand that colds and flus are the body's way of expelling toxins.
  4. Find good natural practitioners to help you look after yourself such as Naturopaths, Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, Ayurvedic Doctors, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctors, Doctors of Natural Medicine and so on. Coaching and natural medicine work well together. The body practitioners listed are well schooled in body mastery but remember to tap into your own wisdom and ask a lot of questions to ensure that you are receiving the best care. Remember that you are expert of your own body because you know it best.
  5. Cleansing baths: At least once a week or as often as you feel necessary, bathe in lemon and salt (sea salt or Epsom) to draw the toxins out of the body. After the bath put sandalwood essential oil or cream on your body to cut any negative connection that might remain between you and your Clients. One way is to add 3-5 drops of sandalwood essential oil to a simple body cream or lotion and shake well. Use this every day after bath or shower.
  6. Study how to build your immune system from all four levels: emotionally, spiritually, physically and intellectually. Building your immune system doesn't just mean taking drops of oil of oregano for example. It also means finding the root cause of your illnesses and how those illnesses serve you.
  7. When traveling, keep the air clean and your body's time clock on arrival time. Many air travelers get sick immediately after a flight because of the bad air in planes. Netty your nostrils with sea salt water before and after flights to get rid of trapped bugs. Sharper Image online offers an ionizer that neutralizes the air - wear it around your neck. Ask your body to move it's time clock to your landing time zone.
  8. Believe that illness is not the truth. Wellness is the truth.
  9. Wash all of your fruit and veggies in salt and soak for five minutes to get rid of pesticides, germs and so on. Yes, even organic foods. Rinse the salt off well.
  10. Pay attention to how you are cooking your foods. Research says that microwaves and Teflon pans are not as healthy as cast iron and stainless steel.

Top Tip

Our Top Tip for this Month is to continue to introduce you to

The Brain Walk®

- The World's #1 Positive Thinking Tool!

It's free!

If you haven't tried it yet … Be bold. Be courageous! Try it now. www.TheBrainWalk.com

Last month we shared with you that The Brain Walk® is a simulation of how the great genii of history came up with their innovative ideas! The Brain Walk® is a set of award-winning methodologies which will give you very quick solutions to challenges and goals.

The genii of history knew how to turn their left hemisphere off and their right hemisphere on. They knew how to decode the images that were streaming in from the highest creative centres in their brain mind. Perhaps some of you have had a chance to try either The Brain Walk® - A Journey for Peace of Mind or The Brain Walk® - Value Amplification.

A Journey for Peace of Mind, or 'Peace' as we affectionately call it, was developed immediately after the USA attacked Iraq. My heart hurt knowing that much bloodshed would follow and I was angry. It occurred to me that many other folks would also be angry. I got down on my hands and knees and prayed for a tool that we could give to the world free of charge to help others during those early painful years. Today, 'Peace' is used by people around the world to help them solve their daily challenges. This month I would like us to focus on The Brain Walk® - Value Amplification. It is a self-coaching methodology specifically designed to boost our self-esteem. When we need that extra 'kick' of self-love, 'The VA' is the ticket!

'The VA' was born in an extraordinary way. Years ago, when suffering from a huge memory recall of a traumatic childhood, which I had conveniently hidden for 35 years, my spirit needed a great boost while I was coaching out the emotions of those painful new memories. 'The VA' was a gift from heaven. Every day, indeed several times a day, I would select a paper values card (now done for you via a random generator on the website). My intention was to pick a 'value' which represented a strength within me. Upon pulling each value, I would reflect on how I was already strong in this value. Immediately my self-esteem would lift because I was honouring a part of myself that was great. Over time, using several coaching methodologies like 'The VA', those painful memories disappeared and were replaced by peace, understanding and compassion for all. You see, Coaches and Clients alike need a 'face lift' every day! Our minds and hearts can often be inundated with bad news. And, without realizing it, our spirits can plummet sometimes into having no hope at all. Here's an extreme example … I remember once coaching a Client whose self-esteem was so low (she was on two anti-psychotic drugs and three anti-depressants) that all I could do with her every week was 'The VA'. Eventually she was able to go to her psychiatrist and ask for a lower dosage of her drugs. She went from having no hope to a place of great hope because the part of her that she didn't value was able to stand up tall and say 'wait a minute here, I'm a great person'.

Invite your Clients to do 'The VA' everyday as it will guide them to identify their great strengths and amplify them to make them even stronger. And as Coaches, definitely remember to do it everyday so that you are in a place of inner power every time you coach a Client.

Go now to www.TheBrainWalk.com and click on "Value Amplification" for a real treat.

Body Mastery

When we give our bodies pure nourishment,

we will attract more clients because we will

have the energy to work with them.

Woo hoo!

Your Questions Answered

I understand the need to live and eat healthily and I often start new regimes with the very best of intentions. However, before very long I find myself reverting to my old ways and my old bad habits. How do you suggest that I keep the motivation going when I hit these hurdles? - Jacquie

Hi Jacquie:

First, let's discuss the reason for your pattern. Your conscious beliefs around healthy eating are not congruent with your subconscious beliefs around healthy eating. The conscious and subconscious beliefs must the same with respect to a certain subject. What we think we become.

In order to ensure congruency, repeat this new belief systems out loud …

"I [your name] am now remarkably healthier because I consistently eat and drink that which keeps my body alkaline in nature and the nutrients of which are easily assimilated by my body."

While you are repeating this new belief system, visualize yourself with a healthy body. Notice your positive feelings. Next, allow those positive feelings to turn into a positive symbol of nature such as a type of tree, flower or rock (whatever comes to mind … ).

What does this new positive symbol mean to you? And how is it a solution for you with respect to body mastery?

With your new congruency, watch how much better you will treat your body.

Thought for the Month

Is Your Body Stressed? Body Mastery is particularly important in times of stress. Whether you're caring for loved ones, coping with the stress of a job, the loss of a job or are simply surviving a recession, it's a good bet that you're experiencing some level of stress.Even crawling through a traffic jam each morning is enough to cause some people to lose their cool.Road rage, air, rage, parking lot rage....we could go on and on.We all know of the emotional and mental impacts of stress but the physical toll is also huge. Stress can put you at risk for high blood pressure and heart disease, trigger headaches and asthma attacks, and exacerbate other medical conditions. Statistics everywhere indicate that more of us are experiencing stress now than at any other time in history. Have a look and see if any of the symptoms below resonate with you. They are all physical symptoms of stress.

__Headaches
__Indigestion
__Stomach Aches
__Sweaty Palms
__Sleep Difficulties
__Dizziness
__Back Pain
__Tight Neck, Shoulders
__Racing Heart
__Restlessness
__Tiredness
__Ringing In Ears

Be conscious and be aware. Identify your stressors and then look at some of the key tips included in the Body Mastery section. These form a vital component of your anti-stress armoury. Try the following :

Stress Busting Tip

The next time you find yourself in a traffic jam, in the queue at the supermarket or even before a stressful meeting, try the following:

  1. Take a deep breath and hold it for several seconds. Then, as you very slowly let your breath out, repeat a focus word or phrase, prayer or motto.
  2. Put your right hand just under your navel. Focus on breathing down into your stomach, not breathing up into your chest. Your hand should rise as you breathe in and fall as you breathe out. Now, as you inhale, say the number "ten" to yourself. Exhale. With the next breath say "nine," then breathe out. Do this until you reach zero.
  3. Put your hand under your navel, just as you did for exercise number two. As you breathe in, count very slowly up to four. As you exhale, count very slowly back down to one. So as you breathe in, count one, two, three, four. As you exhale, count four, three, two, one.
  4. Breathe in through your nose and then breathe out through your mouth. Do this 10 times. Notice how cool the air feels as you inhale in contrast to how warm it feels when you exhale.By now you will be calmer and more ready to face the situation.

The International Coaching Register is for any individual who trades as a coach, who help individuals and/or organisations for example, establish a work life balance, manage stress levels and build communication skills amongst many other specialist areas.

Everyone who has qualified as a coach with a recognised coach training company should now take the opportunity to register. This will dramatically cut down on any misrepresentation that goes on within the industry. Many people have websites and call themselves a
coach but have no actual qualifications. The register will stop these people and raise the profile of genuine coaching and how it can transform people’s lives.

C.E.O. of the ECI Gerard O’Donovan said “the register has been administered by the ECI for the benefit of the world of coaching and coaching clients. It is also a great way for coaches to get business as members of the public can search for registered coaches in their area. It brings coaching transparency at last.”
